PROFESSIONAL DETAILS
I am employed by the National Health Service working as Consultant Child Psychiatrist at Derbyshire NHS Trust based at Kingsway Hospital, Derby. I work with a team of professionals from various fields and provide a service to Children and Adolescents up to the age of 19 yrs.
I am approved under the Mental Health Act as having special experience in the assessment and treatment of children with mental disorders. I am the named doctor for child protection for the Trust and I have had special experience in the assessment and treatment of drug and alcohol problems in children (substance abuse).
PROFESSIONAL TRAINING:
I qualified in 1983 from Southampton Medical School as a doctor of medicine. I became a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1987. I trained in the assessment and treatment of adults with mental health problems in the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Rotational Training Scheme from 1984 until 1988. My training included training in forensic psychiatry based at Rampton Hospital, Retford.
My higher psychiatric training was at the East Anglian Rotational Scheme based at Cambridge and Ipswich. This was for a period of three years from 1988 to 1991. In 1991 I became Consultant Child Psychiatrist at Lichfield & Tamworth working for Premier Health Trust. I worked there until 1998. I worked for a short spell at Nuneaton and Sandwell Hospital Trusts and I am now employed as a Consultant Child Psychiatrist in Derbyshire NHS Trust. I was employed there in 2000.
I am often asked to provide Expert Opinion for Courts. I have been providing reports for Courts from 1988 until the present date. I have produced over 1,500 Court reports since starting medico-legal work. I have been asked to prepare reports in the past by the Official Solicitor and I am now asked to prepare reports frequently by CAFCASS.
I am asked for my Opinion in child abuse cases and in cases of contact and custody disputes. I am instructed by solicitors representing local authorities, individual parents and also guardians.
METHODS OF WORKING:
I prefer to interview families in their own homes when this is possible. I will usually prepare a report within two to three weeks from client appointment. I accept work which is Legal Aid funded and also privately funded. I often carry out paper reports for Courts.
REFEREES:
The names and addresses of referees can be supplied if requested.
